information needed part two...

Had the first part of this blog up yesterday asking for help in anyway with bands i have little or no knowledge of...today i'm asking if anyone has info on the following bands of which again i have little information ...first along is :

The slippery rock string band who originally formed in around '62 but folded '64ish where upon bassist bob harvey joined a new and up and coming band the jefferson airplane in '65! within 6 month's bob had left the airplane and got the slippery rock band back together & releasing a single 'tule fog/sally brought him home' dome records 1967...as you can guess from the name they played  folky-country-string band stuff but they are a part of san francisco music and so would like to know more about them...

The 'yellow brick road' i have written about at length on an upload i did on my youtube channel where i placed both sides of their great psych single 'day before tomorrow/when fall arrives' from 1967..the band had singer jeannie piersol who had been a founding member of  'the great society' as she and her husband were good friends with jerry slick when he was at university...but when darby slick from the society joined the band they changed name to 'hair'  and played a mix of experimental soul/rock...little is known about both bands so .....can you help out?

nice poster featuring the band.

Phananganang are one of those fasinating bands you just have to check out on hearing the name...they did infact release a very rare single and long thought lost in '69 'clown song/two a little one' on the 'san francisco sound' label run by matthew katz....from over in marin county i do have both tracks up on my channel....

Next i need help with a band that over a two year period played everywhere around san francisco and the bay area ' the only alternative and his other possibilities'..started off as a backing band to folky mimi farina (sister of joan baez..) they by late '66 had upped and left and regrouped around a new singer pat (last name unknown..) but later marrying leader tor olson...no records released in their life time which is quite amazing for a group that was so popular...i did find a film of them at the 'matrix club' which i have on my channel which makes me more determined than ever to find out more...

the group were at 'coast recorders' but what was recorded?

the following band i have nothing on except that they did release a single 'just yesterday/saratoga james' on the onyx label...the group 'weird herald' sound a talented bunch with beautiful haunting vocals all done in a folky-country rock style...hailing from san jose they are rumoured to have recorded an unreleased album but can you help out in filling in large gaps in the bands history?

great little poster featuring the band.

and here i'll leave with bated breath and fingers & toes crossed in hoping someone will rack their memory banks and get in touch...information/posters/photo's and just small snippets would help and you can contact me here or e.mail : sfscene@outlook.com

News in....i will post a separate blog for the slippery rock band as i have much new information....

' sounds unlimited blues band ' - blues/rock from san francisco...

1964 saw a huge musical change occur in american music when in february 1964 the 'beatles' played on the ed sullivan show to an audience of around 23 million households (audience figures of over 70 million...) and kids everywhere suddenly wanted to be in a band...folk-rock was on the horizon with the 'byrds/bob dylan', surf music was on the wane along with songs about hotrods and surfing...yeah a whole new form of music was developing and a bunch of school kids from glen park/the mission district of san francisco decided that they too should form a band so 'tom lazaneo/jim dotson/steve rascon and fellow school friend jorge santana became 'jim & the gents'... early days for jim and the gents                                                  ...

the hippie revolt film - unknown grateful dead jam?

Yeah you read that correctly  in 1967 a movie titled 'something's happening' aka 'the hippie revolt' aka 'the world of acid' was released to little fanfare and did little business but today it's seen as a historical document as so many of these long forgotten films are. The film its self was directed by edgar beatty with music by the 'love generation' (more of which later...)...filmed in los angeles/san francisco/santa barbara and at a commune going by the name of strawberry fields it is pure explotation featuring all the elements that mothers and fathers everywhere were afraid of for their children... released in december 1967.   For many years it was thought and still is by many to contain a long forgotten grateful dead jam from 'winterland' where one of ken kesey and the pranksters last acid test's was held on the 31/10/66... in fact a graduation... Its this doubtful nature of the film and its soundtrack that has led many to beli...

the svelts - sacramento's all female band...

A band that seems to have remained a mystery over the years due to the fact that they didn't play the ballroom circuit or have their names emblazed on posters of the day..the band in fact formed around '64 when two sisters jean & june millington relocated to sacramento from their native manilla home in the philippines to sacramento with their parents...at school they formed a duo playing  guitars and singing hits of the day. They by late '64 decided an electric band was needed when the beatles and the brit invasion hit america so was born 'the svelts' which was : june millington/jean millington/cathy carter and brie berry on drums...all friends at high school berry was forced to leave the band early on due to being pregnant (and married..)... poster from 1965.             Over the coming years many line-up changes came about so its almost impossible to keep track but with berry gone kathy terry was brought in as a replacement.Dates are very vague b...
